Kennedy King New Beginning Senior Program
Our Kennedy/King New Beginning Senior Program offers a variety of activities and opportunities for senior community members (aged 55 and older) that prevent loneliness and social isolation by providing mental stimulation, enhancing self-concept and supplying a creative and social outlet. The goal of this program is to improve social involvement while providing services geared toward enhancing the health and well-being of the elderly residents within the Kennedy/King Park area. Through health-focused, recreational and educational activities, we support our seniors and help them to remain active and healthy in order to encourage them to stay independent longer. Financial management assistance, legal assistance and life management services are also offered. In addition to the services and activities listed below, seniors may receive mental health and other counseling, participate in workforce development activities and access other services and supports offered through Forest Manor Multi-Service Center.
Health and Nutrition Classes
Chair aerobics classes are offered twice a week through a partnership with Indy Parks. Additionally, Citizens Health Center and the John H. Boner Center offer monthly blood pressure and cholesterol monitoring and other supplementary health and nutritional classes for participants. Health and nutritional counseling, as well as other supplementary health and nutritional classes are also offered to our seniors.
Every Tuesday, Bible Study is provided by Mt. Helm Missionary Baptist Church.
Housing and Transportation Assistance
Transportation and housing needs are met on an as-needed basis. Senior participants may receive referrals for rental, utility and transportation expenses. We work with our seniors to make sure that they are able to stay in their homes as long as possible and we assist them with access to transportation when they are in need.
Computer Training is available to our seniors by a private volunteer.
Activities include: arts & crafts; leisure activities such as cards and board games; exercise; social outings (e.g., malls, theater, plays); educational learning on topics such as financial management, Social Security and healthcare; and additional recreation and cultural pursuits.
