Formerly known as ACCESS, our Homeless Prevention Program provides adults and families with the help they need to achieve self-sufficiency, personal enrichment and positive mental and physical well-being in order to proactively prevent homelessness in our community. This program seeks to intervene and assist families and individuals in crisis situations, thereby eliminating stress that may keep them from focusing on long term solutions. Staff then works with residents in need to identify solutions to chronic problems, with the overall goals being self-sufficiency and financial independence.
The Home Assistance Counselor assists families with individualized, holistic needs assessments, self-sufficiency planning assistance, mental health counseling and provides access to a range of emergency services focused on stabilizing crisis situations. This programs also offers referral assistance and connections to agency and community resources in addition to opportunities for support, learning, personal growth and development for Kennedy/King residents. Extensive case management services are also provided.
Available direct emergency assistance includes: crisis intervention; utility, rental, and holiday financial aid; emergency food pantry services; food vouchers; child care vouchers; clothing; additional holiday assistance; transportation assistance (ex. IndyGo bus assistance); and winter energy assistance.
Assistance is available on Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
