Workforce Development Program

Yes Program
The Youth Employment Program provides employment and training services that assist in addressing the educational, job readiness and career exploration goals of youth. Program helps young people, ages 14 to 25, with:

►Basic skills training, including remedial education, and literacy training
►Tutoring, mentoring and other services so you can complete high school. We help
...students stay in schools, including alternative schools, and we help those who have ...dropped out get their GED.
►Summer employment that is linked to academic or occupational learning
►Internships in the private sector
►Job placement
►Services to smooth the way from school to work, higher education or apprenticeship
►Job-readiness training.
 

Job Training
During the two week program, clients receive 30 hours of classroom instruction which includes but is not limited to resume and cover letter creation, how to complete a job application, interviewing skills, as well as uncovering and eliminating personal barriers to employment such as transportation and childcare issues, skills identification, career interest and matching, self-esteem building, time management, job retention skills, online job search methodology, anger management and conflict resolution, goal setting and development of a positive self image.

 

While in the program, each client must apply for four different jobs and develop resumes and cover letters appropriate to each submission. Clients complete a series of paperwork designed to improve their self-image, value and self-esteem. They develop methodologies and mechanisms to cope with the demands of job and personal life issues. Clients then have an additional ten hours of one-on-one time for additional support services in the computer lab or for continued personal development. Referrals are made to partner employers along with deserved letters of recommendation on behalf of the program participant. Once the participant is employed, follow-up is made with employer and employee at 90 and 180 day intervals, by the program facilitator.

Life Skills
Our Life Skills component focuses on problem solving behaviors appropriately and responsibly used in the management of our everyday affairs. Life Skills can be broken down into do-able, manageable parts, which can be taught, modeled and practiced. Our program focuses on the Life Skills which are used in 5 major areas of living our lives (self, family, job/school, leisure and community) lessons and programs are designed to meet the specific needs of a wide range of program participants.

Comprehensive Anti-Gang Initiative
The CAGI program is a proactive three-prong approach which includes law enforcement, prevention and re-entry working together to diminish gang activity in Indianapolis. In an effort to reduce recidivism, the re-entry component will focus on:

►Post Release Service
►Accountability

To be eligible for this program, participants are:

►Formerly incarcerated, ages with various ties to gangs
►Between the ages of 19-35
►Residing in Marion County within targeted zip codes: 46201, 46208, 46218, 46222, or 46224
►Referred by Probation or Parole as eligible

A partnership with faith-based and community organizations, law enforcement, and treatment service providers will assist eligible participants with finding community support and services.
